Matt Castrucci Kia is an example of a client I designed for that utilized their co-op abilities. I had to follow Kia’s brand guidelines and then submit the designs online for approval before they could run. When designing for co-op through car dealerships, I had access to numerous Kia assets, which made the process much easier.

Many of our clients were small businesses that lacked brand guidelines or assets for us to use; some didn’t even have a logo. It was helpful to have access to high-quality assets, as this allowed the artwork to turn out cleaner. I often faced the challenge of designing for clients who insisted on including too much information in their designs. Sometimes, you’re forced to create artwork that looks less appealing or isn’t very functional for billboard advertising.

Ideally, you want to keep the message to eight words or fewer on billboards because you only have 8-10 seconds to read it while driving. It can be challenging to explain to clients that designing for billboards is very different from creating flyers, websites, or social media content. Projects like these were always enjoyable because the results are satisfying.
